The PeaceCraft Center
The Swiss Center for Mediation against War
The Geneva School of Diplomacy launched its not-for-profit Peacecraft ® Center for mediation with a mission to South Sudan in March 2011.
Dr. Colum Murphy, President of the Center, led, during the course of March, a small team to Juba, capital of the new country of South Sudan. The team met with leaders of South Sudan, to listen and to learn from their visions and their articulation of how the new country can proceed; assess ways in which the Peacecraft Center can help; and draw up a report on South Sudan capacity building needs.
In the recently held referendum, voters in South Sudan voted overwhelmingly to break away from Sudan as a whole. Southern leaders, moreover, have taken the decision that the new country be named “South Sudan”. The Peacecraft Center’s mission is at the gracious invitation of southern leaders.
