Education

Mr. Morand Fachot studied Economics and International Relations in France before moving to Berlin in 1979.

Professional Experience

Morand Fachot has more than 20 years of experience in journalism, media analysis and public relations. From 1990 he worked for the BBC World Service Monitoring Service (part of the BBC’s Global News Division). After covering French and German media he worked as an editor on various news desks (Europe/Balkans, MENA, Africa/Latin America), as well as an editor for the Video Unit and media analyst for the Foreign Media Unit. During his time with the BBC World Service, he covered political, security, terrorism, economic, technical and broadcast media issues writing analyses and reports on these for distribution to BBC management, official British and US government agencies and departments, and commercial customers. He also wrote reports for the BBC News web site and the BBC World Service Talks Unit.
From 2002 he worked in corporate communication for the Geneva-based European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest association of national broadcasters in the world with 74 active members from 56 countries in and around Europe, and 36 associate members around the world.
From July 2008 he worked as a media adviser / editor for the Swiss section of the medical humanitarian NGO Médecins sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), on internal communication and on media mapping for countries where MSF intervenes.
Mr. Fachot currently works as a writer / communication specialist for the Geneva-based International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the world’s leading organisation that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. The IEC is one of three global sister organizations (IEC, ISO, ITU) that develop International Standards for the world.
From 1998 he has also worked as a freelance analyst/writer on international broadcast media issues and media in zones of conflict for a number of organisations that include the UK-based Association for International Broadcasting (AIB), the Swiss-based media NGO Fondation Hirondelle and the international media NGO Internews.

His publications include articles, business reports, book chapters, research papers and media analyses for a number of print and online media outlets/organisations or think tanks that include the BBC News website, the Financial Times Business Group, the Canadian Institute for Public Policy Research, Radio Canada International, the AIB, Fondation Hirondelle, Chatham House, the Adham Center for Television Journalism (American University in Cairo), MSF or the US Public Diplomacy Council.
Topics covered in his publications include broadcast media technology; the news management in military interventions, conflict and post-conflict situations; hate media; international broadcasting and public diplomacy; and broadcast media markets in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America. Mr. Fachot also writes on electrotechnology.
